COVID-19 UPDATE
Due to the pandemic, at this time all in-person senior performances are cancelled through the end of August. All church performances inside a building are also cancelled through August, unless other arrangements have been made. Customized music videos, live-streaming, as well as assistance with video programming are available. I have retooled much of my business to assist churches in this time with online worship (please visit the "Services for Online Church" page for more information. Hospice music therapy is available in private homes. In some cases in can be provided to clients in facilities if through a window, customized recordings, or via telehealth. In person hospice visits are done with appropriate PPE, and therapists request other persons in the client's home wear masks and maintain social distancing during visits. Wind instruments can not be used for in person sessions, but can be used if the music therapists our outside a window.

New Wellespring Studio Recording & Video
Anna & Christian have collaborated in recording a studio version of the Gospel folk song, Poor Wayfaring Stranger- a crowd (and congregation) favorite at many of their performances. The song combines Anna's warm voice and resonant cello, with Christian's haunting Native American flute and guitar accompaniment. The Video feature's Christian's Photography, mostly in black and white.

As part of Delano UMC's 150th anniversary year, all living pastors who have served Delano will be returning to preach. Christian's father Larry was an interim pastor four seven months while Christian was working on the music team. They will be returning together for music and a message on what should be a joyful worship service!

Blue Christmas?
Yes, blue as in the blues. As in "I am feeling blue."
Not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays.
Dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with cancer or some other disease that puts a question mark over the future, experiencing a miscarriage during pregnancy, and a variety of other human situations can make parties and Christmas celebrations awkward and painful for many people – both in our congregations and in the community.
St. John’s will be hosting this Blue Christmas service featuring musician Christian Nielsen. If you know someone in your circle who has experienced loss or change that might be causing them pain or grief, extend an invitation and let them know they are welcome to come and be a part of this community worship.
Together, we will honor our feelings of sadness, and be met with the eternal hope that comes in the Christmas message: that you are never alone, that God meets us in our sad times, and walks with us on our journey.

Ridgeview Hospice is the program through which Christian Nielsen Music provides music therapy services. It's always an honor to reunited with our hospice families, and to be joined by other members of the community who are struggling with grief and loss.

Native American spirituality, philosophy, history, and justice issues explored through music performance, presentation, interactive music making, and discussion.
Christian is a musician, composer and hospice music therapist, who has studied Native American music, culture, history and healing. He’s served the area as a church musician and music therapist for 20 years, playing guitar, ukuleles, Native American flute, percussion, and sings. Native spirituality has been a large part of his own faith journey. He has performed and presented in many Minnesota churches about music, healing, and about the intersection of indigenous and Christian beliefs. Not Native American himself, Christian does not speak for any particular group, but shares his love of Native American music, and speaks about his own experience, as well as history and justice issues.

Anna and Christian are looking forward to returning to the Whalan Standstill Parade festival this coming Saturday morning, playing from 10 to 11 am, just before the Standstill Parade starts. This is a fun and unique festival in the picturesque, friendly small town of Whalan, which is only a few hours from Lanesboro. We’ll be near the gazebo. There’s great food, art, crafts, antique cars, and of course the famous parade that stands still (and the audience moves- quite an experience). Whalan is also home to the well known Aroma Pie Shoppe. Come on down to Whalan for a fun Saturday! 🎶🥧🥁🌞

Looking forward to to playing for the Holy Thursday simple contemplative meal and service. During the meal I’ll be playing traditional hymns, spirituals, Native American flutes, and a little country Gospel in a meditative style. During the service there will be dramatic reading by the youth and we’ll be singing and having communion together, as Pastor Cheryl leads us in we remembering the Last Super.

For both of these services, Christian will be collaborating with Nesa Black on the piano for special music & song leading. The 8 am service will start quietly and meditatively, and have more folk music. The 10:30 service will be a bit more of a traditional worship service, with many of the standard Easter Hymns. You are welcome to join us for one or both of these special service

Please note that Christian cares for and serves people regardless of politics. Christian has been inspired by the positive campaign of listening, conversation, and respect led by Dean.
Christian has song led at many of the campaign's parades. Christian was asked by the campaign to create a prerecorded sing-a-long with accompaniment track to help the moving marchers have a solid background to sing with. This allowed Christian or another member of Musicians for Dean to lead and direct the singing. Christian recorded guitar, ukulele, banjo, and a percussion track, which can be heard in the background.
